UberTwitter for BlackBerry Review

by Blake Sunshine on June 23, 2009

I admit it, some days I hate my BlackBerry. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t really want an iPhone or any other fancy phone out there. So I must make do with what I have.  But, I love Twitter. So it’s important to me that I find an app that makes my sometimes terrible BlackBerry, not so terrible.

For the past year or so I have been using TwitterBerry to access Twitter on my BlackBerry. But, the application was sooo slow on my phone. It was faster for me to just log into Twitter using the web browser and update my status manually. So when I saw an article in Mashable about UberTwitter, I figured it was worth a try.

Here is what I like about it so far:

1. Connection with my GPS- UberTwitter gives me the option to include my GPS location in my Tweet. Here I am sitting in traffic in Sandy Springs, Georgia. Now all of my followers from Georgia know where to avoid all because of my Tweet.

location

2. Twitter Search- I couldn’t even run a Twitter search on TwitterBerry. Now I can not only run a search, but I can also limit the distance of the search. For example if I am at Mellow Mushroom in Austin, I can limit the search to people who tweeted about Mellow Mushroom within 5 miles of me. Improptu tweet-up anyone?

3. Trending Topics- I can see the Twitter trending topics on my phone using UberTwitter. Right now they are #iranelection and #jonandkate, go figure.

4. Speed- I don’t know why, but UberTwitter is much faster on my phone than TwitterBerry. It populates my feed faster and updates my status faster. And lets face it, faster is better.

I would say, so far so good! What Twitter app do you use for your BlackBerry?

How’s the UI? I know one thing with TwitterBerry is that you had to select a tweet in order to read the whole thing. I didn’t like that. Too much clicking in order to read the tweets I was interested in….

The UI is nice. You can see the whole Tweet without clicking on it, much easier to read than TwitterBerry.

Sister! Can you TwitPic from UberBerry? If not, do you know of another way to do it on a Blackberry?

Hey Rebecca,
You can send a Twitpic using UberTwitter or TwitterBerry!

When you said Georgia followers would know where to avoid, I thought “Awwww, Blake! People don’t avoid you!”

But then I realized you were tweeting about traffic. Avoiding traffic, not Blake.
