I’ve interned for a lot of VERY global companies (Coca-Cola is served in 200+ countries) so I know the value of marketing to the world. Which is why I am so excited to hear that Facebook has become the number one social network in 11 of 17 European countries that comScore tracks. The countries included are The United Kingdom, France, Turkey, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Norway and Finland. There are nearly 100 million unique visitors in Europe who are now using Facebook to connect, engage and speak with their network.
According to Inside Facebook, Facebook’s total share of European internet minutes increased from 1.1% to 4.1% during the last year, and its share of total European social networking minutes increased from 12.3% to 30.4%.
So what does all of this mean for marketers?
1. For social networking, the US continues to set the trends. America adopted Facebook as its social network of choice and the whole world is now following.
2. When using Facebook it is more important than ever now to speak to all of your consumers, because every one around the world is listening.
3. It is now safe to make Facebook a large part of your social media marketing strategy. Clearly, Facebook is not going anywhere anytime soon.
