Rebuilding after a tough year

by Blake Sunshine on December 5, 2010

A lot of Millennials are in a tough place right now. Looking for jobs, losing jobs and being unhappy in their jobs are just a few of the things that many Millennials have been through this year. The year 2010 was not always an easy one for Millennials (and a lot of people in other generations too), but 2011 is looming and it just feels like it’s going to be a good year. Rebuilding after a tough year isn’t just about wanting to rebuild though. It takes effort and determination to make your next year a better one.

Similarly to most Millennials, my favorite team the Texas Longhorns had a rough 2010 season. Lack of direction, zero accountability and unexpected difficulties made them the only team in history that has gone to the National Championship game one year and not made it to a bowl game the next.

How can you come back from a tough year and rebuild yourself (or your team) to greatness?

1. Work harder- This is the most obvious thing you can do to rebuild after a tough year. Whatever you do DON’T say that you were working as hard as you could possibly work last year. It’s not true. It will never be true. Work harder in 2011 to reach your goals and you will.

2. Rethink the people- The Texas Longhorns have already started doing this and I’m sure many Millennials will too. Ask yourself if you are surrounding yourself with the most motivated, creative and innovative people you know. If you aren’t, rethink the role they play in helping you reach your goals.

3. Get creative- Don’t do the same thing you did last year. You have to, have to, try something new then the same old stuff you tried last year. Think about what worked, think harder about what didn’t work and get creative with how you operate on a daily basis.

Let’s make 2011 a year to rid our lives of what hasn’t been working a rebuild after a tough 2010. What else can you do to rebuild after a tough year?

The Importance of Shooting Free Throws

My favorite team, the Texas Longhorns, are out of the NCAA tournament and it doesn’t come as a surprise to me. All season they have been terrible free throw shooters, which led them to finish the season with a 63 percent free throw average. That average is totally weak and got me thinking about what [...]

The Blake Press Poll

January 9, 2009

Only those very close to me know that before it was The Associated Press Poll, it was The Blake Press Poll. Yes, I used to decide which football team reigned supreme. So for old times sake, here is who I think deserves to be on the top of the college football polls. 1. Utah 2. [...]
