Mike Vick needs Twitter

by Blake Sunshine on August 16, 2009

Mike Vick had been in jail for a while, so while he may have missed the Twitter wagon that other NFL players jumped on to, I think it’s about time that he get on Twitter. Why you ask, would anyone care about what Mike Vick has to say in 140 characters?

Well, maybe no one else does care if he is on Twitter. But I do, and here is why:

1. Vick needs to share his message- Mike Vick has obviously changed. And Twitter is an amazing platform to share your message, beliefs, thoughts and feelings with others. What better place for Vick to share his work with the humane society, and other non-profits, than Twitter. People need to see first hand that he is trying to change, and by literally telling people all over the world through Twitter what he is doing, he will be able to show and prove that he is working hard to be a better person.

2. Vick needs to learn from others- The best part about Twitter is how easy it is to share best practices and important information. By using Twitter, Vick could gather a ton of information from other users on how to deal with his situation. Twitter is a gathering place for learners, which is what he needs to become right now.

3. Vick needs to know what people honestly think him- Another great thing about Twitter, especially for brands, is that you see people’s honest opinions about your product. Mike Vick is basically a brand, and he needs to know what people honestly think of him. It would do him a world of good to do a Twitter search for his name and see what people are talking about, and then join in a conversation with these people. This would allow Vick to grow as a human and as a brand.

See, Mike Vick needs Twitter!

But what would his handle be? @Mikevick, @MV7, @VickEagle, @Eagle7?

Blake,

Brilliant, although people tend to get more upset over inhumane treatment of animals than over inhumane treatment of people – so… he may have to wait quite a while before he comes out with anything else. Especially with the millennial crowd, since many of us are coming into owning our own pets for the first time anyway.

Time is an important factor – and I think giving that many people such easy access would be easily, and quickly, personally defeating. Lay low, let the situation die down, and then own it while moving forward.
