As I write this post I am doing my mother a favor and waiting for Comcast to come fix two of our cable boxes. When my mom asked me yesterday if I would stay home and wait for Comcast I said, “Sure no problem, when are they coming?” That is when my mom shocked me and said “Between 2 and 6.”
Two and 6??!! That’s four hours! I’m only home for two more days and you want me to sit for four whole hours and do nothing. And to top it off, they don’t even call to give you a warning they just show up when they want to!
I was so confused as to why this happens that I did a little research, and apparently it isn’t only Comcast who works on a four hour time window. According to my research, AC repair men, plumbers and delivery people all do the same thing.
Well a four hour time window may have worked for my parents, but it won’t cut it for me.
I’m a millennial! I want things fast, and I want them when I want them.
So I guess the whole point of this pretty much pointless post is that I want Comcast to show up already. Or at least send me a DM, text or BBM when they are on their way. I hope one day Millennials start demanding a tighter time window. But until then, I have three more hours to wait…

Regarding your posts about the 4-hour time window and the Millennials being bored in the workplace…as a teacher and parent of 3 teens, I understand. However, doesn’t this problem span generations? I’ve always been annoyed by the 4-hour rule. I’ve also been mind-numbingly bored at many office jobs (as well as every single day in high school) and I’m from the boomer generation. But being the “good employee” or the the “good student” or the “good customer” (in the case of the cable company)… I kept my thoughts to myself. I think the real difference here with the Millennials is that they are finally speaking up. Bravo!
Hey Cathy,
You are right, waiting for four hours bothers everyone in every generation! Lucky for me next week I’ll be waiting for them again.
Thanks for your comment.
