Blake,

I vote for a pet rescue charity in honor of our little Lula Bean. She was a victim of abuse and was rescued by the humane society from dog hoarders.

Here are a couple of charities that I researched:

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), is the nation's largest animal protection organization, and is America's mainstream force against cruelty, exploitation and neglect. The organization seeks social change for animals by advocating public policies, educating the public about animal issues and joining with corporations on behalf of animal-friendly policies, among other topics.

PetSmart Charities works to improve the quality of life for all companion animals by creating and supporting programs that save the lives of homeless pets and promote healthy relationships between people and pets. Through its PetSmart Charities Adoption Centers, the organization helps save a homeless pet's life every two minutes. PetSmart Charities also funds the innovative and collaborative programs of more than 3,400 animal welfare agencies across the U.S. and Canada. These programs help raise awareness of and support companion animal welfare issues, provide urgently needed pet emergency relief and educate and professionalize the animal welfare field.

Blake - My vote is for Big Hearts for Brave Hearts, a young professionals group whose purpose is to support Hospice Austin’s Camp Brave Heart, a free summer camp for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one.

Camp Brave Heart is a free, two-and-a-half-day camp experience designed to combine the fun of a recreational camp with grief support for children ages 6 through 17 who have experienced the lost of a loved one due to death.

I am all in for any cancer related cause. BUT right now my family is becoming very involved with the Chordoma Foundation which is raising money to research my brother's type of tumor. Donors are few and far between considering its rarity. But that is my vote!

I love Kiva (kiva.org)...the microfinancing concept is powerful, encourages entrepreneurship, and helps in many economic facets from education to basic food supplies. The cool thing is that your loan is re-paid over time and you can make another loan with the same money. Very cool and worth checking out.
