Why you shouldn't poke me on Facebook

by Blake Sunshine on October 11, 2009

Mashable always provides me with amazing social media news, but today I could not stop laughing about their most recent report. Mashable posted about how a woman in Tennessee was arrested for poking someone on Facebook.

According to the Tennessean,

Shannon D. Jackson, 36, was arrested Friday, Sept. 25 for allegedly violating an order of protection. According to the affidavit filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court, Jackson is accused of using the “poke” option on Facebook to contact a Hendersonville woman, thus violating the terms of the order of protection, which stipulates “no telephoning, contacting or otherwise communicating with the petitioner.”

Let this be a warning to all! Poking people on Facebook can be dangerous. Besides, I still don’t understand what it means when someone pokes me.

What do you mean when you poke someone on Facebook?

What about if you “nudge” me via IM? Can I file a complaint? :)
