Holding on to hope

by Blake Sunshine on October 13, 2010

I am enthralled by the story of the Chilean miners that have been stuck a mile under the ground since August 5. For over two months they have sat underground, away from their families, with very little food and with no reassurance that they may ever get out. The one thing that the miners never let go of was hope. It’s amazing to me how you can hold on to hope when there is nothing left to hold on to.

As Anne Lamott once said, “Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: you don’t give up.”

They just rescued the 12th miner from underground after 11 hours from the start of the rescue. There are 21 more miners underground and I am holding on to hope too that they all make it out alive. Each miner that is rescued reminds me in a different way how amazing, wonderful and precious life can be. Some come up and immediately thank God, others hug their families and one awesome miner led the entire audience in song.

These miners have inspired me to hold onto hope even when it feels like you can’t or shouldn’t or don’t want to. Hold onto hope always.

The USA Today says that Millennials are more cautious about getting married and starting families than previous generations. Everything is negotiable!

February 1, 2010

I am beyond fascinated by an article I just read in the Washington Post called, “In tough economic times, shoppers take haggling to new heights.” Michael Rosenwald, a Washington Post writer, decided for a week that he would try to haggle down the price of everything he bought. In one week he saved $730! He haggled at [...]
