I am a terrible speller. I am so bad at spelling that yesterday Morgan asked me how to spell spreadsheet, and I spelled it spreedsheet.
Maybe it’s because I have always let Google and Microsoft Word correct my spelling? Maybe my teachers didn’t do a good job of teaching me how to spell? But something in me wonders are all Millennials bad spellers, or is it just me?
I agree with Penelope Trunk that writing without typos is totally outdated, and in my blog I always try to focus on the content and less on being perfect. But it still makes me really angry that I can’t spell. In fact, there is probably a typo in this blog post.
Is it just me, or are all Millennials bad spellers?

No, I don’t believe so. I definitely try to catch as many errors as possible prior to posting. It is not just what you say, but the way you say it (or spell it). I’ve never been riled up enough about someone’s spelling to leave comments, but I do notice. Depending on your blogs audience and your goals for it (ex. getting noticed in your field), taking a few minutes to self-edit wouldn’t hurt.
I would say most of my friends are bad spellers (if not terrible spellers), and while I spell check frequently, I consider myself a pretty good speller. I grew up with weekly spelling tests and spelling bees in elementary school and SAT word lists in high school (if you spelled the word wrong when inserting it into the fitting sentence, you didn’t get credit). That being said, I frequently spell sentence, recommend, and other random words wrong all the time, even more so on my iPhone…
We’re also really bad at math too. I can’t add anything with more than 2 digits without a calculator.
